I’m a big proponent of writing things down. Whether it’s to help you clarify a problem that has to be dealt with ASAP, making a choice between different options, a reminder of something you don’t want to forget, writing these things down can help with these along with many other things.
I understand that it may seem annoying or even pointless to write these things down. For the sake of simplicity, let’s consider a tough decision we must make about which action we’re going to take.
Very probably, we’ll think ‘I have no reason to actually put my ideas onto paper. I understand the issue and can way the pros and the cons of each possibility.’
Even though that’s typically true, there may be advantages to taking physical notes on the issue. First, when something is written and we can see them in front of us, we can more easily clarify our options. If we haven’t, the possibilities can be vague, and advantages and disadvantages might be hard to clarify. This can also be solved by forcing ourselves to speak out each one clearly, taking pains to clarify each one.
Next, once we have a good number written down, (the more time you spend on this, the better), assigning each one a score.
