Many people focus on the ‘bad’ things that happened to them that day, and don’t even give a thought to everything that went right. That’s because most people tend not to notice these things, since they live with them all the time. We read about people who complain about things that seem so trivial and think them spoiled, yet never have those same thoughts in our own lives.
I, myself, am guilty of this. I can breathe well and see clearly. I have a sense of smell that works and taste which makes my meals much more enjoyable than they would be otherwise.
And I have countless other blessings that are too numerous to list.
Since I have all of this, I should be happy with whatever happens in my life, however negative it seems.
And yet, all too often I overlook that fact and complain about my day.
I will often do this for weeks or months at a stretch, and won’t take a step back and look at how lucky I actually am every single day.
We tend to have a myopic, hypercritical view of our lives and not to see the advantages we live with every day. As the famous saying that we all know goes: “Don’t forget to stop and smell the roses.”
